The HSE is an alternative for earning a high school diploma. Your HSE diploma can be earned after completing a test based on five subject areas including Math, Language Arts - Reading, Language Arts - Writing, Science, and Social Studies. The skills you are taught and eventually tested on are at the same level as those of graduating high school seniors.

The High School Equivalency Test cost $115 and will include five subject areas. The payment must be paid in CASH at the time of registration.

Registration is done in person at the testing office during specific registration times. At the time of registration you must present ONE government issued picture ID. Preferred choice would be an Indiana Driver’s License or Indiana State ID. If the ID is foreign or out-of-state, you would be required to provide additional documentation proving residency in the State of Indiana for at least 30 days. If you are 16 or 17 years of age, you must also bring additional documentation of a Superintendent’s signature. You must create a a HiSET account prior to coming in to register for the test. More than seven hours are needed to complete the five tests. It is given over a two-day period. Our testing site offers evening, afternoon and morning sessions. A testing schedule will be available at the time of registration.

The test can be administered on a computer or paper/pencil. Our site only offers the computer version.

To earn your High School Equivalency Certification you must pass each individual sub-test with a minimum score of 8 and a minimum score of 2 on the writing portion of the test. You must have a combined score of 45 on all tests. You will be able to see the scores of your tests in your HiSET account within 2-3 days.

You may retest in any subject that you did not pass up to 2 more times in a year.  You do not have to do the entire test over. There is no change for the 2nd or 3rd test. A 30 day waiting period is required before retesting.

No, if you pass, you will receive a High School Equivalency Certificate issued by the state of Indiana.

There is limited seating in each testing. You cannot reserve a testing time until you create a HiSET account, show proper I.D., and pay for the test.
